Fans have been waiting nearly a decade for Left 4 Dead 3, and while nothing has been announced on that front, Turtle Rock Studios is stepping up to fill that void. Turtle Rock, the studio behind the original Left 4 Dead, has announced a new co-op zombie shooter called Back 4 Blood, and while details are scarce, an FAQ on the game offers some more information on what fans can expect from the upcoming game.

Back 4 Blood will have both a campaign as well as PvP elements. It's unclear if the campaign and PvP will be distinct and separate, or if they will blend together like we saw in the Left 4 Dead games. If it's the latter, then fans should be able to expect special zombie types that they will be able to take control of in Back 4 Blood, though that's just speculation at this time. Back 4 Blood is clearly positioned as a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, but the final product may have some distinct differences, and so it's too early to say exactly how its PvP will work.

One thing we do know for sure about PvP in Back 4 Blood is that it won't come in the form of a battle royale mode. While battle royale is the current FPS craze, it seems Turtle Rock is sticking to its guns and staying true to its promise to return to its roots, focusing on more traditional game modes instead of battle royale. Fans of the battle royale genre may be disappointed by this news, but those looking for an experience more in line with the Left 4 Dead games will be pleased.

Meanwhile, we don't know much about Back 4 Blood's campaign either beyond the fact that it exists. Depending on how similar Back 4 Blood is to Left 4 Dead, it's possible that it will be comprised of multiple, separate campaigns, or it may have a more connected narrative. However, anything said about Back 4 Blood's campaign is just speculation until Turtle Rock decides to reveal more information.

The Back 4 Blood FAQ also touches on microtransactions. It doesn't deny that microtransactions are coming to the game, just that Turtle Rock hasn't made that determination yet. As some may recall, the microtransactions in Turtle Rock's Evolve were the source of some controversy a few years ago, so it's understandable that the studio is being cautious with how they're implemented in its latest project.

More information on Back 4 Blood isn't expected to come any time soon, as the game doesn't even have a logo, let alone screenshots or a trailer. Turtle Rock is in the process of expanding its development team to work on the game, which is part of the reason why it made its announcement, and so fans will just have to sit tight and wait to learn more.

Back 4 Blood is in development for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and next-generation platforms.
