In an effort to make Anthem feel more rewarding, developer BioWare has released a new update focused on loot. While this isn’t the be-all and end-all as far as loot changes in Anthem are concerned, it is a start.

The changes are server-side, so Anthem players will not need to download any update or patch. As far as what the update does change, players should notice an increase in Masterwork and Legendary gear drops while completing Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3 difficulty activities. Additionally, BioWare buffed the potential for better rewards from unique enemies including Legendary Titans, Epic Titans, Legendary Furies, Legendary Acid Ursix, and Legendary Luminary Elders.

One of the key complaints regarding the difficulty levels in Anthem was that GM 2 and GM 3 were not worth the effort. With “spongier” enemies that deal high damage, the time to complete an activity at that level was much longer but the drops didn’t seem much better than GM 1. Now, players should be better incentivized to increase the difficulty in the hopes of obtaining better loot.

  • Masterwork & Legendary drop rates have been increased for Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3 difficulty levels.
  • Masterwork & Legendary drop rates have been increased for harder enemies at all difficulty levels. This includes: Legendary Titan, Epic Titan, Legendary Fury, Legendary Acid Ursix and Legendary Luminary Elder.

BioWare isn’t saying how much the drop rates have been increased but EA Global Community Manager Andrew Johnson says they are “significant.” Some early reports from players seem to suggest Masterworks and Legendary items are dropping more regularly, which is a good sign.

As mentioned, this is a good start for Anthem players frustrated by the state of loot in the game but the game arguably has a long way to go still. After seeing the “bugged” drop rates from last week, Anthem players now know how rewarding the experience can be and would ideally like to see it return.

In addition to more loot, though, Anthem needs reworks to damage and health scaling, the potential rolls for inscriptions on items, and eventually the content available. Collecting more Masterworks and Legendaries is nice but when they don’t actually benefit the player then they are not worth the effort.

Anthem is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
