The Daily Grind: Does Neverwinter or DDO handle the D&D license better?

Ooh Justin, them’s fightin’ words!

We don’t often have the luxury of seeing two full-fledged MMORPGs handle the same intellectual property, especially in vastly different ways. But in the case of Neverwinter and Dungeons and Dragons Online, we do. While both spring out of the D&D framework and feature action combat and certain same monsters and classes, they’re almost as different as different can be. DDO revels in a more stat-based approach with a unique dungeon setup, while Neverwinter is streamlined to provide a fast-paced combat experience that also leans heavily on the F2P grind.

Keeping in mind that neither game accurately replicates the experience of sitting around a table actually roleplaying with a group of other people, which of the two do you think handles the D&D license better? Not necessarily more faithfully, mind you, but better for an MMO setting?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
