Red Dead Online’s next update includes multiple new PvP events and… fishing challenges

Don’t you forget about me, Red Dead Redemption 2 belts out into the void where Anthem, Division 2, Apex Legends, and Fortnite are currently vying for every last scrap of attention. My MMO is still in beta! And we’re doing things! Yep, Red Dead Online is anticipating a chunky update next week. Here’s what to expect:

  • Fool’s Gold free roam event – it’s kinda like king of the hill, only the “winner” gets to look like a goofball;
  • Fishing challenges – a PvP-free fishing event because hey some people buy cowboy cosplay video games to pro fly fish;
  • Three new showdown modes – They’re called Up in Smoke, Spoils of War, and Plunder, and they sound like free-for-all robbery arenas;
  • And of course, new weapons (guns, in this case), new wearables, and new emotes.

Everything rolls out on February 26th, though it sounds like PS4 players get a little jump, as “In addition to new Target Races, PlayStation 4 players will have early access to Open Target Races where you compete in an open space to take out the most targets on horseback. PS4 players will also get early access to the Jawbone Knife.” Everyone’s getting a 20% experience bonus starting right now, though!
