Blizzard's 2012 dungeon crawler Diablo III was played by its higher share of core PC gamers in January 2019 than it has been in six months.
That's according to research from data firm Newzoo's PC Games Tracker, which says that 2.5 per cent of core PC gamers played the in January versus 1.6 per cent in December 2018 and 2.1 per cent in November. This marks the game's highest player share of core gamers since the summer.
Newzoo notes that Diablo III was particularly popular with users in the Nordic region, Italy and New Zealand. The game was played by 5.1 per cent of core PC users in Denmark and 4.3 per cent of the same audience in Sweden. Meanwhile, 3.6 per cent of Norway's core user base played the dungeon looter.
However, Italian PC users played the game for the longest with an average daily play time of 42.8 minutes. New Zealand, however, saw the highest average session figure at a whopping 143.5 minutes.
This was likely driven by the content update that Blizzard rolled out to celebrate the game's seventh anniversary, which was marked by an event that ran between January 3rd and 31st.
Meanwhile, publisher Blizzard was the most popular publisher globally for January 2019, with 26 per cent of Newzoo's core PC gaming panel playing at least one game from the games giant.
Newzoo's Top Ten most popular core PC games ranking is much the same as December 2018, with Dota 2 replacing Grand Theft Auto V in the No.10 being the only change in this ranking. Valve's MOBA rose two positions from twelve place last month thanks to the new ranked season update.
Diablo III didn't make the Top Ten, but Newzoo notes that it shot up 13 places to enter the rankings at No.19.
