Ever since the release of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, rumors soon swirled about the possible remaster of another classic game, Crash Team Racing. The speculations were eventually confirmed to be true when Activision announced that the beloved racing game would soon be given a makeover for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

After Crash Team Racing’s official reveal at the Game Awards last year, some fans of the original title waited patiently for Activision to showcase what the title  look like on a modern game engine. Now, official gameplay footage of the upcoming remake was recently unveiled, showing the massive graphical overhaul that players can expect in Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled.

Stephane Gravek, the production director of Activision’s subsidiary Beenox, explained that the Nitro Fueled is more of a “recreation than a remaster,” of the 1999 racing game. Gravek explained, “All of the assets are brand new, the characters were built from the ground up, the same for the tracks and the remastered soundtrack. We even rerecorded every voice-over.”

The latest gameplay footage of Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled showcases several of the game’s iconic racetracks, such as Crash Cove, Dingo Canyon, and the notoriously tricky Polar Pass. The preview confirmed that all of the original game’s features such as characters, levels, modes, and power-ups would all be included in the upcoming remake of the game.

The latest version will also feature new and exciting elements such as 4K graphics support for the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. What's more is that it will provide players with the ability to customize their karts, and the highly-requested online mode that would allow players to race with one another.

Shortly after the game’s official announcement last December, rumors claimed that Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled could be delayed for the Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, it seems that the game won’t be postponed to Nintendo’s hybrid console after all now that several retailers have updated their listings of the Switch version to June 21, which is the same release date to all other platforms.

As for the possibility of a PC and mobile port of the remake, Gravel only said that as of the moment, the studio is focused on bringing the remake to consoles first. According to the Beenox production director, any possible port to other platforms would depend on the overall performance of Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, most especially its online multiplayer functionality.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled is scheduled to release on June 21, 2019, for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
