Destiny 2 is set to receive a new update on Tuesday, January 29 that includes a mixture of changes to a number of weapons, supers, and to the Black Armory content. In its weekly blog, the developer Bungie detailed more weapon changes coming in Update 2.1.4 that will specifically affect grenade launchers.

Grenade launchers have been in an interesting place throughout Destiny 2, falling in and out of popularity. Currently, they are not a very popular weapon class in PvP with shotguns and fusion rifles often taking the forefront over grenade launchers. The upcoming changes to grenade launchers look to make them more consistent.

The first change to grenade launchers on the way is a tweak to their projectiles to make them feel more consistent on direct hits. Direct hits with grenade launchers became much more common this season with the addition of The Mountaintop pinnacle Crucible reward, which fires its projectiles in a straight line instead of the arc of nearly every other grenade launcher.

The next change affects grenade launchers with Proximity Grenades, which will remove their ability to impact directly at all with Bungie saying that this will prevent Special ammo grenade launchers from being able to one-shot enemies in PvP with the perk active. While some players are scratching their heads at this change, others are recommending switching to Spike Grenades and believing that weapons like The Mountaintop and Militia's Birthright will be more consistent and effective because of this change.

The last two changes affect the ammo of Special ammo grenade launchers. These changes include grenade launchers getting their ammo reserve size increased across the board, and an increased amount of ammo upon initial spawn in PvE only.

Many players online feel like these changes will further nerf grenade launchers into non-use, but others remain hopeful that these will actually greatly improve them. Players will have to wait and see and judge for themselves after going hands-on with the changes next week.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
