Project Genom is quietly restructuring around SpatialOS

haha oops

Have you been watching Project Genom from the sidelines and noted in the back of your mind that it seems like the game has gone a really long time without any updates or news? You’re not wrong; the game’s last major update was in May, and the project subsequently fell quiet for a long while before the developers quietly admitted in November that the update still had a lot of bugs and issues that just could not be quickly addressed. In the end, the team decided to rebuild the game around the SpatialOS technology offered by Improbable.

This was compounded by the fact that the game was both selling very poorly and getting hit with several refund requests for the few copies that did sell, resulting in the game taking in less than $500/month. Thus, the developers announced that there were plans to temporarily close the servers, with compensation and further details to be forthcoming following the server restrictions in December. Of course, we’re now almost through January and there’s no additional news… so it remains to be seen what comes next for Project Genom and if the restructuring occurs as promised.
