Ever since Bloober Team announced its partnership with Friday the 13th publisher Gun Media to put out Layers of Fear 2, fans of the psychological horror series have been patiently waiting for more information about the forthcoming title. With this being the case, the companies have now released a trailer to shed additional light on the new game, with the footage offering up a fresh look of the frights to come in the sequel.

Layers of Fear 2 will be narrated by none other than veteran character actor and voice artist Tony Todd (Candyman, Platoon), with the latest trailer featuring more of the sequel's ship-at-sea setting, as well as some of the surreal moments to be encountered. The game's protagonist will be a star actor of the Hollywood Golden Age, who takes a role requiring them to shoot a film aboard a mysterious ocean-liner. Furthermore, instead of paintings being the medium through which the narrative is driven, LoF2 will utilize the history of cinema as a means to tell the tale and deliver the scares.

Layers of Fear 2 also shared a developer diary in which the game's lead designer and producer, Bartosz Kapron, leads a discussion about the inspirations behind the sequel, and how fans should expect it to differ from the original, which some believe to be one of the scariest games on PS4 and Xbox One. According to Kapron, Bloober Team has aimed to "preserve all that [it] loved about the first game" which includes its "dark, claustrophobic interiors, the shifting environments, as well as a rich, multilayered story". The exploration of the art of cinema for the sequel should help set LoF2 apart from the 2016 release, as it gave developers, "a brand new set of assets and styles to play around with".

All things considered, it's still far too early to tell exactly how Layers of Fear 2 will improve upon its predecessor, as Bloober Team and Gun Media have yet to even provide a concrete release date other than the nebulous window of 2019. Those who wish to get a better idea in regards to the foundations on which LoF2 will be building would do well to check out our review of the first game right here.

Layers of Fear 2 is currently scheduled to release at some point in 2019, but currently lacks confirmed platforms.
