On the heels of the Hatchathon event and Totodile Community Day, Pokemon GO began a new event in the form of the Hoenn Celebration. As its name suggests, this event focuses on gen 3 Pokemon with the legendary weather-based Pokemon Groudon and Kyogre making a return to raids. Moreover, the event also introduces two new shinies in the form of Zigzagoon and Taillow.

Although that seems like more than enough, Niantic has gone a step further and also introduced some event special Field Research tasks into the fold. Thus far, it seems as if there has only been 3 added as part of this Pokemon GO event, but if more happened to be discovered, then this article will be updated accordingly. Of these 3 quests, it also appears that only two of them result in Pokemon encounters.

Research Task (Reward)

  • Hoenn Celebration: Hatch 2 Eggs (Nosepass)
  • Hoenn Celebration: Evolve 3 Wurmple (Trapinch)
  • Hoenn Celebration: Catch 10 Zigzagoon or Taillow (1000 Stardust)

While these may not be the grandest additions to the game, they certainly are welcome ones. Notably, completing the third task is just bonus stardust for those Pokemon GO completionists attempting to gather the shinies. It also seems possible that, with Nosepass being the reward for one task, that maybe his Gen 4 cross-evolution, Probopass, will be added soon. And Trapinch's placement in these tasks also seemingly suggests that it will not be featured during Pokemon GO's February Community Day as some hoped.

Of course, the January Field Research tasks are still live alongside these special event quests, so Pokemon GO players certainly aren't lacking in the Field Research department. It's worth noting, however, that these special Hoenn tasks will end alongside the event on January 29 at 1:00 PM PST. Those hoarding Nosepass candy then will likely want to stay on point with these quests.

For those event-focused Pokemon GO players, it's worth mentioning that another gen 3 Pokemon will be taking the fore on Saturday, January 19. A Community day-like Limited Time Research event focuses on the water-type Feebas, but also includes the ability to find a shiny Feebas. With all of these events going on in Pokemon GO, it's seems safe to say that the mobile ARG has hit the new year running.

Pokemon GO is out now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
