EA Rumored to Have Closed Vancouver Studio's Open World Star Wars Game

Three sources have reached out to Kotaku and are reporting that development on an open world Star Wars game has stopped. The unnamed game was announced at the same time as the now-cancelled Star Wars game at Visceral Studios. EA Vancouver was working on the game and had been since October 2017. After Visceral's Star Wars game was cancelled, it was thought that its assets transferred to Vancouver, though it is unclear if the two projects were merged.

EA had not shown any of EA Vancouver’s open-world Star Wars game publicly, but the publisher talked about it when it announced Visceral’s demise. “It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design,” the company said at the time. “A development team from across EA Worldwide Studios will take over development of this game, led by a team from EA Vancouver that has already been working on the project.”

At this point, it remains unknown what projects EA Vancouver are working on particularly in light of today's rumored cancellation.

We'll keep you posted!
