Battle Royale modes are all the rage these days, having found themselves in every game from Fortnite to Black Ops 4, and possibly even Modern Warfare 4Now, Red Dead Online is taking a crack at Battle Royale with a new mode titled "Gun Rush".

The game mode, which is available now in Red Dead Onlinewill see 32 players gather weapons and ammunition in a continually shrinking zone in either a free-for-all or team format. It doesn't seem like a departure from any other battle royale modes out there, but players will at least have the benefit of the game's stellar shooting mechanics and gorgeous visuals as they attempt to outlive the competition.

In addition to the battle royale mode, Xbox One players can now acquire content previously exclusive to the PlayStation 4, such as the Red-Chestnut Arabian horse (which players can acquire for free using this method), Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle, and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver.

Rockstar also outlined several other changes that will be coming to Red Dead Online's beta soon.

  • Daily Challenges: Tackle new challenges each day covering every aspect of the game, from sharpshooting to evading the law.
  • Law and Bounty Upgrades: Some changes are coming to the way the Law and Bounty systems work in Red Dead Online to reduce the enticements for griefing. Soon, players will get a bounty for committing crimes and will be incentivized to pay them off within an allotted time. Wait too long and bounty hunters from each of the states will track the player forcing them to either pay up or escape.
  • Parley Changes: We’re making the Parley system easier to trigger so that you can avoid aggressive players more quickly. In addition, it will be easier to trigger Feuds, Posse Feuds and Leader Feuds to take on attacking players in structured competition.
  • Proximity-Based Player Blips: Player location blips will soon appear only over short distances, reducing the range at which you are visible to others, decreasing the likelihood of being targeted by another player across large areas.

No dates were given for the other changes, but they should prove to be welcome updates to the beta, which stirred up some controversy upon its release for what many players thought was an unfair economy. However, Rockstar has since made balance changes to the game to help quell those complaints.

For being a beta, Red Dead Online does pack quite a bit of content for players to work through thanks to the world being just as vast and detailed as Red Dead Redemption 2. Luckily, beta progress will also carry over to the full release of Red Dead Online, so players don't have to worry about wasting all the time they're sure to invest in the battle royale mode.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
