Without a doubt, many Pokemon GO players are likely preparing for the upcoming Totodile Community Day, the first Community Day of the new year, which is set to take place on January 12. Per usual, developer Niantic hasn't confirmed that shiny Totodile will be a part of the festivities, but it would be a serious break from tradition for it to not be.

Some players may be discouraged that Totodile's shiny variant only slightly differs from the original, as significant changes like Metagross's are often more favored. Regardless, Pokemon GO completionists who want to have every possibly shiny they can get their hands on aren't likely to look down on a shiny Totodile, especially when considering the popularity of the second gen Water starter.

As seen below, the color variation is slight, with the shiny version (on the right) being green instead of blue. Furthermore, the typically red spikes on Croconaw and Feraligatr become a deep blue on the shiny variants, which is the extent of the differences between the standard and shiny renditions of the fan-favorite Pokemon.

Another currently unconfirmed fact for the upcoming community day worth discussing is the exclusive move. We should hear more about this soon, but by all accounts, it'll likely be Hydro Cannon - like the water starter Squirtle before it. Considering Chikorita and Cyndaquil learned the same moves as Bulbasaur and Charmander respectively, it makes the most sense, meaning that shiny Hydro Cannon Feraligatrs could soon come to the meta.

This could very well make Feraligatr more meta relevant since Hydro Cannon can deal 90 damage and is an incredibly fast charge move. To unlock this move, fans will want to make sure they evolve Croconaw into Feraligatr during the established window, whether or not it is shiny. For some, these events are better for hunting shinies than collecting battle-ready Pokemon, but when possible, it certainly doesn't hurt to do both.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS mobile devices.
