2018 was a rough year for Cliff Bleszinski, a famed game developer most well known for his work on the Gears Of War franchise. Not one, but two of his games failed to find audiences in two equally saturated markets, which ultimately led to his studio's closure. Following this, Bleszinski announced that he was retiring from game development, but he is apparently keeping busy with other projects.

Bleszinski announced on Twitter that he is co-producing the Broadway musical Hadestown, a reimaging of two interwoven love stories based in Greek mythology. Needless to say, it seems to be a radical change for Bleszinski, who had built up a reputation for being somewhat of a video game "bad boy" during the height of his game development career.

While this change is interesting on its own, it also raises the question of whether or not Bleszinski will continue to pursue a career on Broadway, or at least the production of Broadway shows, after Hadestown. The former developer already has a book in the works, so there are fallback options should Broadway fail to pan out for him. There's also the possibility of Bleszinski giving game development another shot sometime in the future, though it doesn't seem he has any intention to do so anytime soon, as he recently announced he'll never make another game.

The musical is currently set to open on Broadway in March, and tickets are available on the Hadestown website for anyone that may be interested in checking out the show. The soundtrack is also available on Spotify for those that can't attend any of the showings.

It'll be interesting to see how successful Broadway turns out to be for Bleszinski. With any luck, the show will perform better than his ill-fated studio, Boss Key Productions, and prove to be an interesting chapter in his forthcoming novel, which he has already teased a few chapters of. If all else fails, he could try a career in television or film, and perhaps even become the first to successfully adapt a video game to the big screen.
