Pokemon GO players have yet another family of shiny creatures to hunt down thanks to the wide-release of shiny Sandshrew. This particular shiny was previously exclusively available to players who were able to participate in the Tottori Prefecture Event, but recent reports confirm that this shiny is now up for grabs in the wild.

The release of another shiny doesn't impact the metagame at all, but it does mean that completionists have another fun goal to start working towards. Sandshrew and its evolution are both pretty popular shiny monsters, it seems likely that the Pokemon GO community will be out in full force trying to find them throughout the rest of the holiday.

The release of shiny creatures in Pokemon GO started out slow, but has really picked up during the second half of 2018. It will be very interesting to follow along in the coming year and see if Niantic keeps up this pace for future shiny releases.

Collecting shiny Pokemon doesn’t give the trainer any kind of advantage in battle or impact the PvP or PvE metagame, but it is still a fun additional challenge to add into the game. Shiny Pokemon are perfect for leaving in Gyms to show off to the rest of the community.

The next confirmed shiny will arrive during the January Community Day, so players will have a busy first few weeks of the year. Be sure to check back for more details, guides, and updates in the coming weeks. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is currently available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
