Conan Exiles recaps 2018, talks plans for dungeons, The Purge, and thrall AI

The folks at Funcom have released the latest Conan Exiles newsletter — the last of 2018, in fact — and as is the custom at this time of year, it’s dedicated to reflecting on the past months and looking forward to what’s to come in 2019. There’s no denying that it’s been a pretty big year for Funcom’s popular survival sandbox, as the devs are keen to remind us: “Since January 2018, we’ve released around 30 patches and hotfixes for the PC version of Conan Exiles alone, adding everything from simple bug fixes and balance changes, to huge content additions and revamps,” all of which is in addition to “4 paid DLC packs with new armors, weapons, building pieces, placeables, and pet skins.”

And as if that weren’t enough on its own, the newsletter adds that the devs “have several more updates and bug fixes to roll out . . . including 4 more dungeons that [they] still haven’t revealed yet.” That’s still a little ways in the future, though. As for this week, the devs are releasing another patch to the game’s Testlive branch that will include new building optimizations, “vastly improving how fast the game loads in building pieces across the board.” Beyond that, the team says that its “current focus is improving the core aspects of Conan Exiles in the next couple of months,” which includes “improving the Purge, fixing exploits, and improving AI and thralls.”

The newsletter ends on a bittersweet note. As it turns out, this isn’t just the last newsletter of 2018; it’s the last newsletter, period. Going forward, the devs will be shelving the traditional community newsletters and will instead be focusing on communicating with the community through other channels, such as the newly implemented Trello board as well as the forums, Steam, and the Conan Exiles subreddit. Out with the old and in with the new, we suppose.
