With the holiday season rapidly approaching, many studios and publishers are preparing to head out on a mini-vacation, leaving the industry fairly quiet until January. While the news cycle powers down and the video game sales heat up, this is also the time when a lot of end of the year statistics tend to appear, revealing data on things like total play time or a certain number of things done by players. Microsoft just launched its year in review for 2018, giving fans greater insight into a number of Xbox related topics.

Highlighted on Twitter by Microsoft's own Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb, players can head over to the main Xbox website and sign in to see a personalized year in review page. After logging in, the first page details achievement based data such as where the player ranked among everyone else for their gamerscore, where they are in the number of hours played, and the percentage of achievements earned compared to the rest of the Xbox community.

More personalized stats await, including the player's most played Xbox game in 2018, other games which weren't too far off, and other stats such as how many friends were added or total time spent playing the Xbox. The questionnaire from Microsoft even asks the player additional questions on these numbers, letting the player pick one of two options for what felt like a bigger accomplishment for them. At the end of the year in review, the system compiles all of the information and creates a personalized snowglobe for the player along with all of the stats and the ability to share it out or download it.

It's been a memorable year for Microsoft and while the software giant may not have caught up to Sony and the PlayStation 4, the company made a number of significant moves for the future. Many studios like Playground Games and the RPG powerhouse Obsidian Entertainment were acquired this year, the popular Game Pass service continued to be iterated on, and the company continued its push for cross platforming gaming through titles like Fortnite.

For many though, the most exciting aspect is the promise of what's to come as even more rumors about next-gen consoles like Scarlet have recently begun to circulate. Even more code names have leaked including Lockhart and Anaconda, both of which could be revealed next year at E3.
