Last week at The Game Awards, Activision announced Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, a reimagining of the 1999 kart racer for PlayStation 1 built from the ground up for modern platforms. After teasing the reveal days prior to the award ceremony, the game was announced to be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on June 21, 2019. However, rumors have suggested that the Switch version might not make the planned release date.

The rumor of a possible Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled delay for Switch comes from reports that retailers are either refunding or canceling pre-orders. Additionally, the game's official website now lists the Switch version as "Coming Soon."

Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled crash

Since the Nintendo Switch released almost two years ago, third party titles for the system have either had to be modified, contracted out to studios who specialize in porting titles, or they simply never made it to the platform. Other high profile games have completely neglected the hybrid console, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, or Rainbow Six Siege due to technical shortcomings. On the other hand, some third-party developers have been adamant about getting their games onto the Switch. Bethesda is a front-runner in that regard, with Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and even The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim all currently playable on Switch.

As far as Activision's involvement, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy released on Switch back in June, after coming to PlayStation 4 first in 2017. And Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which released last month for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, has a Switch version on the way. The kart racing remaster looked to be the first time Activision was trying to release a game simultaneously across all three platforms with no exclusive deal with Sony, but it seems Switch owners are once again missing out.

If these rumors are true, it's unfortunate Switch owners will be waiting a little longer for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled to release. Thankfully the Nintendo Switch already has a strong kart racer in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for those looking for a competitive racing game on the platform.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled launches on June 21st, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If the rumors appear to be false, it will release on Nintendo Switch as well.
