With The Game Awards 2018 scheduled for this Thursday, December 6, 2018, the rumor mill has already been pumping out all manner of potential reveals at the show, from a release date for Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding to a reveal of the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4. There is one, though, that seems to have a very strong chance of actually being true, and it's that the Crash Bandicoot racing title, Crash Team Racing, will be getting a full-fledged remaster, and could be announced during TGA 2018's ceremonies.

Earlier this week on the official Crash Bandicoot Facebook page, the cover photo was updated with a picture of a very simple checkerboard pattern which, while rather unassuming at first sight, matches the background of Crash Team Racing's main menu screen. Not only that, but also PlayStation Access presenter Holly Bennett uploaded a photo to the Twitter page of a pair of orange, fuzzy dice, alongside a message that reads "Sliding into the Game Awards on 6/12."

Both of these instances seem to heavily point towards an announcement regarding Crash Team Racing. While it could potentially be teasing a simple re-release, it seems more likely that the game would receive the same treatment as the incredibly successful N. Sane Trilogy, which completely remastered the original three Crash games.

Activision has yet to comment on the potential reveal, but this would match up with a rumor from earlier this year that the publisher planned to release a new Crash game in 2019. While many might have expected a completely original title, another remaster wouldn't necessarily be seen as a bad thing, even if it is a result of Activision playing things safe.

Originally released on the PSOne in 1999, Crash Team Racing was the last title in the Crash series developed by Naughty Dog before moving on to other projects. While the orange marsupial has had other racing titles since, none of them have managed to achieve the same level of popularity as CTR, which continues to be enjoyed to this day, so much so that its exclusion from the PlayStation Classic confused a lot of fans. Hopefully, though, it wasn't a part of the mini retro console's lineup due to Activision wanting to capitalize on sales for the potential remaster.

Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy is available to play right now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, but there's no official word just yet on a Crash Team Racing remaster.
