As Bungie and Activision continue to press on with their continued support of Destiny 2, the ever approaching slew of seasonal content packages look to bring with it new features, via both player demand and improved quality of gameplay. One of those features has major implications on the newest mode from the Forsaken expansion, Gambit, which launched back in September.

While it was confirmed before the expansion's launch in September that Destiny 2's Gambit mode would not feature any sort of private matchmaking options for players, it looks as though Bungie plans to add this feature sometime in Spring 2019. The confirmation comes via twitter from Bungie Community manager Cozmo, who says private matches for Gambit will be coming in the Season of the Drifter update.

Here's the current roadmap of content plans for Destiny 2:

The addition of private Gambit matches and new maps is part of the free seasonal updates for Destiny 2. While players will need to have bought the game's annual pass to receive the additional content listed on the lower portion of the roadmap listed above, the newest mode of Destiny 2 is getting its push across the entire player base. Bungie will hope the additional content available from the annual pass is appealing enough for fans to want to purchase, since Activision reported last month that Destiny 2 hasn't been performing to the publisher's expectations.

Private matchmaking for Gambit isn't the only feature Bungie has been looking into for Destiny 2. Now that Sony has dropped their guard on cross-play and are in the early stages of beta testing the feature with Fortnite, the team behind Bungie's biggest title may be looking to try their hand at breaking down the barriers of hardware as well. Even if Sony's move on cross-play doesn't push Bungie to give it a shot, the potential for Bioware's Anthem to possibly add cross-play after it launches could be the spark the team needs to get in on the feature sooner rather than later.

The new Gambit mode for Destiny 2 is a combined PvEvP arena based mode, pitting two teams of four in a race to take out standard enemies on their respective side in order to spawn a final boss to defeat with a two-out-of-three rounds scoring format. Before it even receives its new matchmaking feature, Gambit is already expecting big changes when Season 5 launches, such as increases in Infamy Ranking Points to obtain and objectives taking less time to complete.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
