The Playstation Blog has a neat new interview with Final Fantasy Battle Content Designer Yoshito Nabeshima conducted by Community Manager Matt "Bayohne" Hilton. In it, the pair discuss the design of "Omega", one of the raid bosses that arrived with the v4.4 update.
The process involves looking at the raid from a story perspective and, in this particular case, "finding a worthy opponent" for players to face of against in a tournament setting. "Omega fights in order to learn and grow stronger" which is the baseline for determining how he might behave.
From there, the design process moves to the actual battle mechanics that bring the best challenge to raiders. Afterward, the process flows back and forth between battle encounter, lore, concept art, animation and the review of the group project that spans multiple teams.
