Aw dang, check out the big brain on Torchlight Frontiers! First the game teases us with forts, which get to be our homes in the wilderness, sparking immediate appeal for those of us who appreciate having a home adjacent to the wilderness. Then it announces that it will start its alpha testing on November 16th, pleasing everyone who writes lists like this and wants to be ready for new games entering testing.
Also, you know, actual alpha testers. Never mind, let’s just move on and cover some other beta news from the week, shall we?
- Do you own an Xbox One? Assuming we saw some hands raised for that question, which is by no means a certainty, we have good news for those of you who do have one and enjoy testing games, as Black Desert Online has started its console beta. More console-based hack-and-slash for all!
- OrbusVR Reborn has kicked off its beta as of today!
- Sure, Fallout 76 might appear to be a lawless hellscape without any sort of security or safety which allows you to play in a post-apocalyptic world, but it’s fine, Bethesda is really going to fix it all. Really.
- There are new game modes for Rend, and – wait! It’s not a battle royale mode! We were all surprised too, but it turns out that the game is actually allowing more classic survival and exploration-based games for testing. That’s a good thing!
- More teases from Ascent: Infinite Realm approach in the form of floating islands and player housing. Wait… floating islands and player housing? Where have we heard that one before?
- It also looks like Crowfall is gearing up for its first campaign. There are subtle signs, like… announcing that it’s getting ready for its first campaign. You can suss it out if you look closely. So let’s all go to the lobby and get ourselves a treat first.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
