Just when we thought we knew everything about the big Halloween event, Pokemon GO drops another surprise. Much like the legendary bird days that took place throughout the summer, Niantic is now hosting a Gengar Day early this November to give raiders a special chance to battle the popular Ghost-type and maybe even secure a shiny.

Details about the upcoming Gengar Day dropped this afternoon shortly after Pokemon GO also announced a new Adventure Sync mode that will greatly improve distance tracking. Gengar Day will offer players five free raid passes during the limited window and every raid in site will feature the Ghost-type. The event is scheduled for November 3, so mark your calendars now.

Shiny Gengar isn't terribly exciting or different from regular Gengar, but that won't stop the completionists from using this opportunity to collect another special variant. Collecting shiny Pokemon doesn’t give the trainer any kind of advantage in battle, but it is still a fun additional challenge to add into the game. Shiny Pokemon are perfect for leaving in Gyms to show off to the rest of the community.
