Fighting Esports Group closes $15m funding round

Chinese esports organization wraps up Series A fundraising, reportedly planning partnership with Tencent

Mobile esports organization Fighting Esports Group has closed on a $15 million Series A funding round led by China Sports Capital.

As reported by China Money Network, funding round participants also included SAIF Partners and Sea of Stars Capital.

"This investment is yet another indication that e-sports has now reached a popularity that is on par with other sports in China," said the company in a statement.

Though specifics on the goals of the funding round were not published, sources speaking to Esports Observer say Fighting Esports Group may be gearing up for a partnership with Tencent to bring Honor of Kings' largest esports competition, the King Pro League, to South Korea, where it will be referred to as the Korean King Pro League.
