Although it may feel like the VR fad has come to a close, there is still plenty of virtual reality content being developed for both PCs and consoles. PS VR is approaching its two year birthday and, to help celebrate, the service has announced that Borderlands 2 VR is the next major title getting the VR treatment.

Borderlands 2 VR will take PS4 gamers back to Pandora, where they can become a treasure-seeking Vault Hunter and experience the game's insane gunplay and setting like never before. As if that wasn't exciting enough, the game is also just two months away and will arrive on December 14, just in time for some holiday gaming sessions.

Here's a look at the official announcement via Twitter...

"Borderlands 2 VR brings the iconic shooting-looting world of Pandora to life like never before, as you virtually become a treasure-seeking Vault Hunter facing off against the galaxy’s most charming psychopathic dictator – Handsome Jack – with nothing but your arsenal of 87 bazillion guns."

Borderlands is definitely a franchise that gamers get excited about, so it will be interesting to see if the title prompts the sale of additional PS VR units. Although the console VR trend has slowed to a bit of a crawl, it's possible that some holiday sales paired with an exciting IP like Borderlands could be enough to trigger some impulse buys later this season.

We'll keep an eye out for additional details that will hopefully offer some hints about how long this VR experience will be. The title can be pre-ordered for $49.99, so hopefully it features a lengthy campaign to keep players busy for at least a dozen hours or so.

Borderlands 2 VR releases December 14 on PS4.
