When Pokemon GO was originally announced, the gaming community had all kinds of ideas about how different franchise features would work in a mobile AR game. Fans were disappointed when the title launched without things like trading, encounter battles, and other iconic Pokemon experiences, but the game has come a long way since then. Trading and Friends are now a major feature in the game and the latest rumors suggest PvP battles may not be far behind.

PvP battles have been a feature request since the game launched. Although Pokemon GO players have come around on the Raid and Gym battles, there is still the desire to have traditional turn-based combat in the game. The hope is that this feature will arrive in the form of PvP or NPC battles.

Yesterday on Twitter, a Niantic rep from Brazil posted a cryptic tweet that didn't specifically mention PvP battles, but the gif he attached to the message sparked new hope that true battles are on the way.

Here's a look at the tweet that seems to have started the rumors...

According to The Silph Road community, the rough translation of the tweet is, "If you knew what I saw, you'd be MAD! ( it will look BEAUTIFUL hahahaha)." Some players have been quick to point out that the inclusion of Gengar in the gif likely means this is a tease for the upcoming Halloween event, but other hopeful fans are honing in on the battle animation.

So far Niantic has not given any hard intel on when PvP battles will arrive, but we'll continue to monitor the rumors for any additional updates or hints. Check back for more details in the coming weeks. Worst case scenario, we'll just be in for an exciting Halloween event. Or maybe a Gen 4 launch?

Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
