You can safely ignore those weird Lord of the Rings Online subscription messages

If you got a cryptic letter from Lord of the Rings Online payment processing company Xsolla in the last day, you can safely ignore it.

The message told lifetime VIP members that their credit card had expired and included a link to register a new card, warning players that their subscriptions would otherwise be canceled – in 2038. Our tipsters, as well as Redditors and forum-goers, were justifiably concerned that it was a phishing email or that Xsolla had been hacked, though some folks did point out it could be a Year 2038 glitch.

We reached out to Standing Stone first thing this morning while its investigation was still ongoing; now, it has announced that there’s nothing to worry about after all. SSG says it was sent in error and that nobody’s sub is in jeopardy.
