Betawatch: New World is strutting its stuff (August 31, 2018)

Finally.

Finally, we’re getting some actual information about New World! Like the parrot, it appears to have not been dead but simply resting. And now we’re finding out about quests and scaling technology, along with getting shown a whole lot of video clips about not much of anything. But they’re pretty video clips. In the end, isn’t that something?

The answer, of course, is no. Let’s move on to other beta news.

  • There’s a big patch approaching for Worlds Adrift, which your current character will not live to see. There’s going to be a server wipe going along with it, you see. Get your screenshots of everything you built for posterity.
  • Do you want a persistent MMO shooter that doesn’t want to call itself an MMO with just a dash of that delicious cryptocurrency spice? If that sounds like your improbable wish list, you can be happy about the existence of Project Genesis.
  • Gloria Victis will perform better! Also, there’s more stuff on the way, like siege weapons. They’re kind of disconnected topics, but they’re both good things, right?
  • Last but not least, Star Citizen has managed to generate player controversy once again, presumably from many people who are muttering that this is the last time they’ll shell out $300 for an unplayable ship as they enter their credit card details. Or that they won’t pay for any more livestreams of the game’s conventions after this one.

Ah, good times, great oldies. And great lists! There’s a list of games in testing down below, and if something is on there which really should not be on there… well, let us know, yes? Or let us know about the betas you’re involved with that are not under NDA. That’s cool, too.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
