CD Projekt Red Hosting Gwent Tournament At Gamescom

by Jeff Cork on Jul 25, 2017 at 10:52 AM

Players of CD Projekt Red's standalone Gwent game – formerly a diversion in The Witcher 3 and now a full CCG currently in open beta – are going to get a chance to show off their skills next month in Germany. The top-seven ranked players will automatically get invited to compete for their share of the $25,000 prize pool, with the extra slot going to a wild-card pick to be selected during the show in Cologne, Germany.

To qualify, players need to sign up for the tournament before August 1 and then climb up to the top of the ranks. The top-seven players will get tickets to the show, and also have their flights and other accommodations covered by CD Projek Red. If you don't make it, you can always buy a ticket to Gamescom and fly yourself over to Germany to compete for that eighth position. Those qualifiers will begin on August 24.

The actual tournament kicks off on August 25 and will take two days. You'll be able to check those matches out on the official Twitch feed.

Take a look at the official tournament page for more information, including details on approved decks, how the prize pool is being split, and more.

Our Take
I'm curious to see how many people get into Gwent, now that it's an actual game and not something that people play inside of an RPG. I enjoyed it, but it was more of a diversion than a destination.
