Ubisoft Cracking Down On For Honor AFK Farmers

For Honor's matchmaking has been a bit uneven since launch, but the game is worth putting up with those issue to play a fun hybrid of brawler and fighter. One issue that's a bit harder to identify, however, is AFK farming, wherein players avoid being kicked for inactivity by leaving the analog stick on their controllers held in a direction, go do something else, then come back to a slew of end-of-match rewards.

Ubisoft's not having any of that, and will now begin punishing players who ruin matches for other players. " We will be sanctioning all the players who have been found to be using AFK Farming repeatedly," said Ubisoft community developer Eric Pope in a blog post yesterday. Players found to be farming items will be given a warning about their behavior, after which they may face a suspension of their For Honor account, which, depending on the severity of the infraction, could be temporary or permanent. For anyone who thinks they may be treated unfairly by the system, Ubisoft is confident it won't accidentally ban anyone who doesn't deserve it. "Rest assured that sanctions will only be applied if there is clear evidence," said Pope.

All first-time offenders are due to receive their appropriate punishments early next week.

Our Take
I haven't encountered too many farmers myself while playing the game, but it's hard to spot them if they're moving around some times. It's good to hear Ubi's taking this so seriously, as I think the game has great potential once these issues (and the matchmaking) are sorted out.
