Nintendo Switch Built Around NVIDIA Tech

by Jeff Cork on Oct 20, 2016 at 04:58 AM

This morning, Nintendo officially unveiled its new hardware, the Nintendo Switch. The hybrid handheld and console was previously known by its codename, the NX. The news was accompanied by blog post from NVIDIA, which, while not outlining hardware specs, talks a bit about its partnership with Nintendo in developing the tech behind the new device.

According to NVIDIA, the Switch is based on a custom version of its Tegra processor, which is a CPU designed with performance and low power consumption in mind. The GPU is based on the current crop of its GeForce graphics cards. Additionally, NVIDIA says that it's all running custom software to account for its mobile and docked states.

We'll learn more about the hardware, including actual specs, as we approach the Switch's March 2017 release date.
