You Can Now Play Halo 5: Guardians Free For A Week, Including New Firefight Mode

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jun 29, 2016 at 01:07 PM

Microsoft and 343 Industries are celebrating Halo 5's free Warzone Firefight update by letting everyone with an Xbox Live Gold account play for a week.

In case you missed the news last week, Halo 5: Guardians will be free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers starting today and running until July 5. While that should be more than enough time to play through the game's solid co-op campaign, you'll also have a chance to check out the new Warzone Firefight mode. Originally introduced in Halo 3: ODST, Firefight was Bungie's take on the classic PvE Horde mode, tasking teams of up to four players with surviving increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Warzone Firefight ups the ante with additional vehicles, boss battles, and up to 8 players per team, but also uses some of the established requisition features of Halo 5's Warzone mode.

The new Halo 5 update includes a number of extras beyond Firefight, including a Score Attack mode for the main campaign, three new maps, a new Forge "canvas" (i.e. starting map), and new REQ items.
