Citizens Of Earth Pulled From eShop After Exploit Is Found

by Elise Favis on May 14, 2016 at 12:15 PM

The RPG Citizens of Earth has been temporarily pulled from the Nintendo eShop for 3DS, after an exploit was found that allows users to run unsolicited software such as homebrew via the game.

Citizens of Earth, which was recently included in the Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle, has been removed as of yesterday evening. Atlus and Nintendo are both working on bringing it back to the eShop once the issue is fixed.

Atlus USA released the following statement on its Facebook page:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to immediately remove Citizens of Earth from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. Both ATLUS and Nintendo are working together to get Citizens of Earth back up on the eShop. We apologize for the inconvenience to anyone affected by this, and assure you that we’re working to restore the game as quickly as possible.

Earlier this month, the platformer VVVVVV was pulled from the eShop for similar reasons, and has not reappeared on the store yet.

Citizens of Earth remains available for purchase on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, and PC.

Our Take
It's unfortunate that two games have now been pulled from the eShop this month, but exploits like these can be difficult to control. We've reached out to Nintendo to get a better idea on when they're hoping to reinstate the game on the 3DS eShop.
