Don’t Expect Battleborn Reviews Until After Launch

by Mike Futter on May 02, 2016 at 02:03 AM

If you’re on the fence about 2K and Gearbox’s next big team-up, Battleborn, you might want to sit tight for a bit. The studio has posted an extensive FAQ about what to expect from the launch and when reviews are going to start appearing.

According to Gearbox, reviews could start appearing today at 10 a.m. Pacific / 1 p.m. Eastern… from people in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. That’s when the game launches in those territories. However, Gearbox says that's when critics will be able to begin their time with the game, not when an embargo lifts.

That means reviews can’t begin in earnest until the game is live. If this is something you’re not sure about and want to hold off for critics to weigh in, you might want to give it a few days.

Battleborn releases tomorrow for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Our Take
This is becoming a common theme this generation, though in this case it’s a bit surprising. Battleborn has a substantial cooperative mode that could have been played prior to launch. Yes, testing of the competitive multiplayer in a live setting is important, but the language used by Gearbox here implies that reviewers won’t even be able to start until public release.
