Sword Coast Legends Developer N-Space Has Closed

by Mike Futter on Mar 30, 2016 at 09:08 AM

A report from a former employee suggests that Sword Coast Legends developer n-Space has closed its doors. The studio, which was founded in 1994, also worked with Activision on a number of handheld ports, including games in the James Bond and Skylanders series.

The news comes from the Twitter account of Ben Leary, a weapon artist who worked for the studio. His statement follows:

While the PC release of Sword Coast Legends has been in the wild since last year (our review), publisher Digital Extremes is also planning Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. The company expressed its condolences for the studio and its team, but didn't have anything more to share at this time regarding the console editions.

"We are deeply saddened by the closing of n-Space," a representative from Digital Extremes tells us. "Staying alive as a mid-sized independent developer in the games industry is no small feat. Their passion for creating games never faltered and their dedicated team has ended on the high note of completing the console version of Sword Coast Legends. We are working hard with them to realize as much as we can for their team during this difficult time and encourage players to keep an eye on the official website for more details on the launch of Sword Coast Legends on Xbox One and PlayStation 4."

Our Take
I'm going to pop Heroes of Ruin into my 3DS in remembrance. It's always unfortunate to see a studio close, especially an independent one so long-lived. Our thoughts are with all those impacted.
