[Update] Deep Silver Announces Dead Island Collection With Trailer

by Jeff Cork on Mar 03, 2016 at 04:19 AM

Update: Deep Silver has officially announced The Dead Island Definitive Edition today with the release of a new trailer showing off the remastered visuals.

Original Story: Retailer Best Buy may have inadvertently announced a new Dead Island collection from Deep Silver, which brings the original game, its standalone expansion, and a new retro-styled endless runner to new-gen consoles.

The bundle, which is listed as the Definitive Edition on the site, is priced at $39.99 and has a release date of May 31. Since the game hasn't been officially announced, there's a chance that the date could be a placeholder. The listing says that it includes remastered HD versions of Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, and a 16-bit style endless runner called Dead Island Retro Revenge. The listing says the bundle also includes all released DLC and patches, too. Fatshark's spinoff, Escape Dead Island, isn't included in the package, but perhaps that's for the best.

Our Take
The first Dead Island game came out about five years ago, with Dead Island Riptide hitting back in 2013. It seems like this is running close to its sell-by date, but with Dead Island 2 on the way, this could be a great way to play catch up. Techland has since moved on to develop Dying Light, which builds upon the ideas the studio devised on Dead Island.
