Just Cause 3 And Rise Of The Tomb Raider Boost Square Enix Revenue, Profits

by Mike Futter on Feb 04, 2016 at 02:50 AM

Square Enix, which just a couple of years ago was struggling, continues to make significant financial gains. The company is posting increased revenue, operating income, and profits for the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

The company says that both Just Cause 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are off to strong starts. The digital entertainment division, which houses all of Square Enix’s console, PC, and mobile games, is up markedly over last year, with revenue boosted 46 percent and operating income up 64 percent.

Company-wide for the first nine months of the year, Square Enix sales are up 28.5 percent to ¥152.8 billion ($1.3 billion). Profits are up 24 percent to ¥13.5 billion ($113.6 million).

The remainder of Square Enix’s fiscal year (from January through March), includes the PC release of Rise of the Tomb Raider (now available) and Hitman for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in March.

Our Take
Square Enix seems to have ironed out its problems from a couple of years ago, honing itself into two distinct publishing operations. The western arm is continues to expand and experiment (with the Go series and Hitman Sniper), while the East is focused on delivering on the RPG front. I’m eager to see where the company goes from here.
