Halo Writer Joseph Staten Penning Armature and Inafune's ReCore

One of the more interesting games introduced during Microsoft’s E3 presentation in 2015 was Armature's ReCore, a partnership with Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune. The brief video introduced a barren world in which robotic entities are powered by spherical energy sources (the titular cores).

While there is still much we don’t know about the title, one detail has emerged. Joseph Staten, who is best known for writing a number of Halo entries at Bungie, is penning the Xbox One and PC game. Staten left Bungie in 2013 after 15 years at the studio.

Speaking with the New York Times, Staten discussed ReCore’s protagonist, Joule, in a piece about female leads. Unfortunately, the piece doesn’t offer any additional glimpses into the game.

Earlier today, Microsoft reconfirmed ReCore for a 2016 release. It’s slated for both Xbox One and PC, though the publisher has not yet identified whether both versions will launch at the same time.

Our Take
Staten played a crucial role in creating the depth of the Halo universe. And while the games might not reveal many of the intricacies, the expanded Halo lore has a lot to offer those willing to go outside the interactive medium. I’m hopeful that Staten can build as compelling a world in ReCore as he did in Halo.
